The San Francisco Chronicle reported that the Richmond High student that was gang raped at her Homecoming dance has told police that one of her attackers was a “trusted friend”.

As if what happened to this poor girl could get any worse. Not only was she attacked by the group of abusers and not helped by those gawking as the rape took place, but this person was a “trusted friend”.

North Carolina College Gives Cash to Discourage Pregnancy

Editor's note: This piece by Valerie Klinker originally appeared on YO! Youth Outlook.

When I first heard that some place is paying young teenage girls to not get pregnant I thought I misheard--this, to me, was shocking. I don’t know how someone can pay a person to not do what their body is naturally supposed to do.

I am a mother and I think anyone who gets pregnant should have the opportunity to make a decision on what he or she wants to do and if they are ready to grow up. The reason I say that is because after you have a child you are no longer living for yourself: you can’t do the things you want to do or spend money on just anything you want, you will be living for your baby, you will have to make sure that everything you do benefits your child. You will have to teach, nurture, care of and love them unconditionally.

The Institution of Marriage: Thou Shalt Not Admit Gays?

On Tuesday there were elections in some parts of the United States. Of course, being an alien, Our Man in America couldn’t vote. But he does have the democratic right to express himself, so he’s going to comment on them anyway.

What struck me about those elections was not the Obama-report-card angle mainstream media has been focusing on. Rather, it was an issue near and dear to many of my friends: gay marriage. You might have seen headlines like, “Maine rejects same-sex marriage law.” Or, “California Weighs Maine Vote on Gay Marriage."

Richmond Rape Victim Releases Statement at Vigil

Eming Piansay, Nov 4, 2009 10:51 AM

Last night at the candlelight vigil held in Richmond in support of the 15-year-old student who was brutally gang raped outside of her Homecoming dance, the victim herself released a statement to the public which read by her church pastor.

“We realize people are angry about this. But let the anger cause change, change that is necessary to keep our children, our neighbors and our friends safe.”

She also wrote in her statement, “violence is always the wrong choice.”
